IN my 56 years in Orange I have seen characters come and go, some more colourful than others.

Emmanuel Conomos, who took over his Uncle George’s fruit shop in Summer Street in the late 60s, was as colourful as they come.
Emmanuel was politically active from the sidelines and on many occasions made his views known to the public through the Central Western Daily.
As well as politics Emmanuel had an interest in horse racing, and the horse Megalo Boy, who he was a part owner of, gave Emmanuel his nickname.
During his time in Orange Emmanuel became a well-known and loved identity.
With his wife Toula, sons Dimitri and Nick, and daughter Olga, Emmanuel moved to Brisbane in 1992, where he ran a food outlet for a number of years.
Emmanuel was a devoted husband, a caring father and a great friend to many.
He will be sorely missed.
