For three weeks, students from two year 9 visual arts classes designed and created pieces for Waste To Art, a competition which invites artists to showcase their creativity using recycled materials and share their waste- reduction message.
Several groups from the school won awards for their work which combined this year’s allocated material, polystyrene, with other found objects.
Teacher Les Quick said the competition tied in with the subject’s sculptural unit.
“I’m particularly proud of the way the students worked in their groups,” he said.
“The way they devise a concept and figure it out together is quite fascinating to watch.”
An exhibition of the art, which includes entries from community groups and individual artists, is on now at the Orange City Library.
All the winning artworks for this and the other Netwaste Council competitions will be showed at the Regional Exhibition in Narrominem next month.
