When my old brain began to work properly, I realised that I could answer my own, recent question relating to unemployment numbers in Orange.
By Googling my question, the answer was there on my computer screen. The percentage figure for Orange's unemployment during the 2017 December quarter was 3.9 per cent.
When the percentage figures are translated into more meaningful numbers, they fluctuate between 848 and 1,021.
I believe it's fair to round the current number to around 1,000, out of a population of 40,000.
More concerning is the percentage for youth unemployment. The national average for youth unemployment was 12.2 per cent, and has been as high as 18.4 per cent in 2016 in some parts of Western NSW.
Some of these figures may be seen as rather rubbery, but whatever they are, they should be a major concern to all of us.
