Two Heads Brewery’s Campbell Hedley has submitted a development application with Orange City Council for a liquor store in Orange Arcade.

If approved, the business would build on existing arcade tenants Harris Farm, Scoop Wholefoods and Cured, which all stock regional products. 

Mr Hedley said there was growing demand for craft beer. 

“I walked out of Harris Farm one day and saw the vacant shop and my mind started to take off,” he said.

“I think the [arcade] owner has done a great job in getting the right tenants and making it a really cool precinct.”

He said the store, to be called The Lane Cellars, would showcase the region’s breweries and distilleries, with David Cumming from Define Wine coming on board to curate the wines. 

The store would also feature a tasting area for winemakers, brewers and distillers to show off their products. 

With Orange councillors having recent mixed feelings on additional liquor outlets, the community impact statement Mr Hedley included in the DA stated the store would keep to hours similar to Harris Farm and the price point would be higher than a normal packaged liquor store due to the calibre of stock offered.

“We want people to be clever about it and really enjoy what they’re drinking.”
