So severe was the attack that Carcoar’s Lisa Bermingham was declared clinically dead on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 16.
Ms Bermingham was driving to Bathurst on the Friday with her two children, Levi aged 4 and Ivy aged 2, when became unwell.
Ms Bermingham was able to stop the car, but after the attack she never regained consciousness.
With the car stopped in the middle of the road.
Other motorists went to her aid, calling emergency services and helping with the two children.
Her friend Brent van Pelt said that they were shocked by the news firstly of her heart attack, and then her death.
“The emergency services took her to Bathurst first and from there she was on life support to Sydney,” he said.
Soon after, Mr van Pelt launched a Go Fund Me page to help with caring for Ms Bermingham and her two children whilst they were in hospital.
“They did the final testing on the Wednesday and declared that she was clinically dead, there was no brain activity,” he said.
Being a registered organ donor, Ms Bermingham’s pancreas, spleen, liver and kidneys have gone on to save four lives, something that her aunt Miriam Davies finds comfort in.
Mrs Davies said that Ms Bermingham suffered from a thyroid disorder.
But the cause of the heart attack was as yet undetermined, and they won’t know the cause until later this week when the coroner’s report is finalised.
The Go Fund Me page is now dedicated to helping to raise Lisa’s two children.
“They’ll be staying here in Carcoar with Lisa’s mum Della and we want to do the best for them,” she said.
The funeral will be held at the Anglican church Carcoar Monday May 28 at 11am.
No flowers, donations welcome.
