Central West Police District Inspector Linda Bradbury said the blazes had been sparked from about 6.30pm, but were extinguished a short time later.
“Several witnesses were interviewed and no one saw anyone coming or going when the fires were lit”, Inspector Bradbury said, adding police were still investigating the incident.
“They were small, mainly grass fires that were controlled in a matter of minutes.
“There was no danger to people or property.”
Christie Lowe was driving on William Street at about 6.25pm when she saw a fire on a vacant block next to Orange Body Works.
When she pulled over she noticed a second fire on the south side of the creek, just east of McLachlan Street.
“I know the guy that owns the mechanic and was worried for the houses further down the road,” Mrs Lowe said.
Fire and Rescue NSW responded to the blazes, with two a tanker and a truck, to extinguish the fires.
In another incident, a vehicle was set on fire in Sir Neville Howse Place in Glenroi at 12.30am on Monday.
Inspector Bradbury said the vehicle was unregistered and appeared to have been stripped of parts.
The incident is the latest in a long string of burnt-out cars in and around Orange over the past two years.
Inspector Bradbury encouraged anyone with information about incidents to contact Orange police.
