Proving their round one win over heavyweights Lithgow Panthers wasn’t a fluke, Orange CYMS picked up a second straight win to start the women’s Premier League Hockey season on Saturday afternoon, downing Zig Zag.

In their first home game as a stand-alone club since 2007 the green and golds slashed three past Zig Zag and, again, produced a huge defensive effort to kept a clean sheet, something coach Pete Shea was stoked about despite not being entirely pleased with the performance itself.
“I didn’t actually think we played all that well,” he said.
“But we still managed to find a way to win and in terms of results it’s a really great way to start the season.
"The defensive end of our game is working really, really well for us so far this year and as anyone can tell you, the most successful teams in any sport tend to defend really well.
“Zig Zag had a few short corners and we held them out, it was a good effort at that end.”
CYMS pushed ahead early in the clash when Emily Lake fired one past Zig Zag goalkeeper Kirsty Jenkins in the ninth minute.
They wouldn’t score again until after half-time, when Libby Smith found the back of the net four minutes into the second period.
Deb Orrock capped the win off with her second goal in as many weeks, scoring at the 50-minute mark to complete the 3-0 victory.
Shea highlighted Kayla Orrock and Madie Smith as his side’s best.
“Madie was very good, I thought she played really well and so did Kayla,” he said.
“Kayla worked really hard to organise the defensive end.”
CYMS’ back-to-back wins are also the perfect way to go into next weekend’s first all-Orange derby of the season against the winless Ex-Services.
