Mrs Brooking announced this week the big red day would return with Saturday September 29 at Wade Park booked for a second attempt at the Guinness world record for the most number of redheads in one place.
Last year 769 redheads flocked to Orange to be counted.
However, while it was a fun day out it fell short of the record-breaking target of 1673.
Mrs Brooking said this year there would be a greater push to get local businesses and cafes involved to make it a true Orange event.
“We want the businesses to see red,” she said.
“We might ask the shopkeepers to don a red wig.
“I want really want the cafes to see red for the weekend, maybe have some red things of the menu for the weekend.”
She said she had lodged a funding application with the Orange City Council for assistance.
Mrs Brooking said she was also looking for sponsorships to help make the event as big as possible.
She said buses were already planned to bring people to Orange from Canberra and Dubbo.
Last year’s event attracted people from out of town which helped boost the economy.
“You couldn’t get accommodation in Orange that weekend,” she said.
“I’m going to try to get the motels, they could offer a ‘ranga’ rate.”
She said she was told by one couple at last year’s event the nearest accommodation they could find was in Canowindra.
Mrs Brooking said she was still organising the entertainment.
“There’s nothing really different as yet,” she said.
“All the vendors are coming back, we’ll have a few more markets this year.”
She said she visited the Gnoo Blas Classic Car Show at Jack Brabham Park in February to speak to car owners about the redhead event.
“I’m looking at getting some red cars, I tracked down all the red and orange car owners,” she said.
Last year there was a gold coin entry fee with proceeds going toward supporting families of people with Huntington’s Disease [HD] as September is HD awareness month.
This year she said part of the proceeds would also go to a local charity, the O’Brien Centre.
