When Fitness Perfection Health Club and Gym owner Nick Gray approached Mr Keegan with the idea of signing up for this year’s Stars of Orange Dance for Cancer, Mr Keegan said he’d do it if Mr Griffin agreed to do it with him.
When My Gray approached Mr Griffin he stretched the truth a little by implying Mr Keegan had already agreed.
“Mum is a dance teacher and when I went to her with Nick’s idea she already had plans for about eight songs in her head,” said Mr Griffin.
Mum, Kate Foran is an instructor at Dance HQ and has given the boys weekly lessons for six weeks now.
“The first lesson Kate dumbed it down a bit for us,” said Mr Keegan.
“The second lesson it hit me what we were in for.”
While Stars of Orange is Mr Keegan’s first foray into the world of dance, Mr Griffin will draw on the breadth of experience he gained as a young jazz star.
“Mum dragged me along to dance lessons from when I was five until I was 14,” he said.
“I’m enjoying lessons with her again but I’m not sure if she’s enjoying it. I annoy her with my choreography contributions.”
With the support of Fitness Perfection, the duo has raised more than $1600 so far.
A Super Saturday event at the gym gave attendees the chance to trial new classes, while their donation dollars went towards a spin of the “punishment wheel”, which saw Mr Keegan and Mr Griffin skull milk, eat raw onion and perform burpees.
When the duo’s dollars raised reaches $3000 they will lose their chest hair.
Gym members and guests can add to the tally by speaking to reception about purchasing a strip of wax.
Alternatively, anyone can donate to the team’s fundraising efforts without any wax involved by clicking here.
The dance event will take place at Orange Function Centre on June 2. Click here for tickets.
The stars and their troupes will compete for honours in Highest Fundraiser, Highest Score, People’s Choice Award and Judge’s Choice.
The dancers’ combined fundraising tally is at $20,914 so far, with Beau Baddock in the lead with more than $3500 raised.
