However, members of the Orange Emus Road Runners have come to the rescue with $3500 from their last charity motorbike ride being put towards new seating for the lodge.
Seventy-eight riders took part in the March ride to raise money for the lodge, which provides accommodation to people living 100 kilometres or more from Orange and receiving cancer treatment at Orange Health Service.
The Orange Emus Road Runners have been riding to raise money for 10 years and nine of those years have been fundraisers for Cancer Care Western NSW and Western Care Lodge.
Petrie’s Mitre 10 store manager, and Emus Rugby Club president, Steve Fergus is one of the road runners’ biggest sponsors and saw some of the new seats on Thursday.
“The great thing about being involved in a lot of this is we’ve got branches across the Central West so it’s great to support a charity that’s helping people in a number of communities,” Mr Fergus said.
Cancer Care Western NSW fundraising manager Jan Savage said the service purchased two leather bucket seats, an electronic chair that can recline to provide comfort for patients receiving certain treatments, and she hopes to buy two new dining chairs.
Mrs Savage said some cancer treatments can be very uncomfortable and the new chair its helpful for people who cannot lie flat in bed and is already in use.
The next Emus charity motorbike ride will be on March 2, 2019.
