According to the Central Western Daily poll, 71.7 per cent of respondents said councillors should be tested for illicit drugs, compared to 28.3 per cent who said testing wasn’t necessary.
The poll received more than 200 votes by Tuesday.
It came about when the question was put to councillors if they would object to quarterly drug tests in Orange, after a councillor in Bathurst raised the issue at the Bathurst Regional Council policy committee meeting last week.
The three Orange councillors who were contacted by the Central Western Daily said they wouldn’t object as long as the test did not include prescription drugs.
Cr Joanne McRae also questioned if it was worth ratepayers’ funds.
