Youth Week 2018 is about celebrating these future leaders and empowering young people in Australia to be the best that they can be.
Known as Generation Z, today’s children, teenagers and young adults are tech-savvy and innovative. They have never known life without smart phones or computers and have been able to ask Google or Siri any question they wanted an answer to.
They are engaged in social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram and spend countless hours watching and uploading clips to YouTube.
According to generationz.com.au, “Gen Z is part of a generation that is global, social, visual and technological. They are the most connected, educated and sophisticated generation ever. They are the up-agers, with influence beyond their years.

However, while it seems that Gen Z have so much going for them they also face many adversities. Cyberbullying is one of the downsides to spending so much time online and is a major cause of depression and anxiety among our youth today.
They also face high unemployment rates and feel the great Aussie dream of home ownership is likely to be unachievable due to the continual rise in housing costs.
