And the wasps are proving a real pest at Lake Canobolas and in parks – particularly for anyone trying to enjoy an outdoor meal.
But an increase in pigeon numbers and the consequential muck they leave all over the place has people concerned.
Mayor Reg Kidd said they were particularly abundant around Post Office Lane and the Civic Centre.
“In my time I have not seen pigeons in these sort of numbers ever,” he said.
Cr Kidd said efforts to deter them include placing spikes on buildings were not working.
They are also abundant in backyards across town.
