ON a day typically dominated by a furry bunny, it was camels taking centrestage at Towac Park on Sunday.
An estimated 7500 people passed through the gates at the Orange Camel Races.
Organiser Graeme Eggleston was happy with the people turnout.
“We didn’t have as many camels as we thought we would, but there’s not much we could do about that,” he said.
“But the crowd was outstanding.”
Mr Eggleston said the wooden camels were popular with children.
“They were a hit,” he said.

Graham Bannister entertained the crowds from the commentary box as some camels prepared to race and others decided they rathered face the other way.
Dan Cameron from Cowra took the opportunity to ride a camel around the stable area.
“They’re tall,” he said.
Daughter Hayley, 12, also took a ride, but did not think she would like to race one.
“I don’t know how you would hold on,” she said.
Volunteers were still tallying the total raised for Give Me 5 For Kids on Sunday.
They had help from the NSW Rural Fire Service, who sold sweeps tickets.
