Red Cross Calling is the charity’s biggest fundraiser of the year – the Orange branch raised $300 at a stall in the past fortnight, but central west co-ordinator June Hutchison said there was still time to contribute at the Red Cross store in Anson Street and online.
“There’s big competition for dollars, but they do so much, it’s been going for a hundred years,” she said.
“Every cent can help.”
The charity has come a long way from its war effort roots – it now provides breakfast in schools, helps people in remote areas to get their drivers licence, companionship and daily phone check-ups for the elderly and transport to medical appointments.
Mrs Hutchison has volunteered with Red Cross for 30 years – this year, she co-ordinated 100 volunteers between Wellington and Blayney.
