The clash was firmly in the balance too, with Kinross 1-2 in reply to CYMS’ 103, but when the heavens opened umpires Nick Cooper and Gerard Hannelly decided to call the encounter a draw, such was the condition of the ground.
The outfit’s victory backed up Kinross Young Guns’ 2016-17 title, a victory that came at the expense of clubmates Kinross Tens, and is also the club’s third premiership win since the Centenary Cup’s inception in 2012-13.
George Cumming led the two blues’ effort with the ball.
The Western Zone representative finished with game-best figures of 3-3 from three overs as CYMS just made it past triple figures, the green and golds were bowled out in 26 of their allotted 35 overs.
Jono Rasmussen (2-17) and Charlie Foran (2-17) also picked up multiple scalps, while Arnie Tancred (1-21), Nelson Shepherd (1-26) and James Thompson (1-10) snared one each.
Those wickets fell consistently too.
Anthony Daintith (28) and Riley Wotton (10) made some inroads early in CYMS’ innings, while danger man Stephen Wotton made a start with 26 as well.
But none could on with those starts, and of the rest of CYMS’ batsmen only skipper Jack Daintith (12 not out) made it double figures.
Kinross were firmly in the box seat after that, not once had the students been bowled out for less than 100 all season. The closest was in the final round when Orange City rolled them for 106.
But as the rain began to fall at Kinross Main Oval the early signs looked promising for the green and golds.
Charlie Kemp conceded just a single run in the first over of the innings before Jack Daintith struck with his first delivery from the other end, luring Angus Blyde (1) into a false shot which Ethan Burke latched onto.
But the rain had become relentless, and that’s when the players left the field.
