LETTER TO THE EDITOR: ‘No plans’ to remove hospital’s kangaroos

IN response to concerns raised in Letters to the Editor, I would like to assure the community that there are no plans to remove or reduce the kangaroo population living on the Orange and Bloomfield hospital sites.

We want to protect and preserve the unique features of this beautiful site, including our resident ‘mob’.

However, this is a busy site, with large amounts of both pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

We need to take steps to ensure the safety of both people and the kangaroos when their paths cross.

To that end, our Work Health and Safety committee has suggested that we seek the advice of a qualified ecologist to learn about any measures that can improve safety.

Yours sincerely,

Jason Crisp, Western NSW Local Health District integrated mental health and drug and alcohol services director
