The teddy bears of Orange are as bold as brass this year.

All the bears heading down to Cook Park on Saturday for their annual picnic really do have a big surprise this year.

The annual Courallie Park Child Development Centre fundraiser, Teddy Bears’ Day Out, is teaming up with the City of Orange Brass Band to co-host the Brass Celebration 2018.

The Teddy Bears’ Day Out, aimed at children under five, is on from 10.30am-12.30pm.

The City of Orange Brass Band will be joined by the Salvation Army’s Melbourne Staff Band, the Parramatta City Brass Band and the Bankstown City Brass Band in a march to Cook Park where each will perform on Saturday afternoon.

The free-entry picnic is in its 12th year.

Courallie early childhood teacher Tamra May-Brell said there would be plenty of stalls, fun games and activities for children including a lollypop toss, a lucky dip, a teddy bear toss, face-painting and cup cake decorating.

“Last year we got a few hundred people,” she said.

“We get quite a lot of visitors.”

Orange mayor Reg Kidd said the two events would work well together.

“[The picnic’s] getting bigger every year and with the annual Brass Celebration happening at the same time, it’s sure to be a wonderful day out for the whole family,” he said.

Council’s services policy chair Kevin Duffy said money raised from the picnic would go toward buying learning materials and equipment for Courallie.

“Coupled with the 11th annual Brass Celebration, it’ll be a wonderful celebration for the young, the older and everyone in between,” Cr Duffy said.

“Three of Australia’s most outstanding brass bands will be visiting Orange for the celebration.

“First held in 2008 the Brass Celebration honours the centenary of the Orange Town Band’s gift of the Cook Park Rotunda to the city of Orange in 1908.

“It’s always a wonderful event full of pomp and ceremony.”
