Volunteers, including a strong children’s contingent, took bags through Margaret Stephenson Park, Hill Park and along Jilba and Margaret streets.
Bottles and discarded wrappers made up the majority of the rubbish collected, with a barbecue held afterwards at the Carriage Cottage.
Organiser Paula Townsend said many of the children attended the Bowen Community Technology Centre and had been helping for years.
“The turnout wasn’t bad especially when it’s the official Clean Up Australia Day next Sunday,” she said.
“It makes a significant difference.”
Mrs Townsend said the volunteers managed to pick up about 10 bags’ worth of rubbish is a little more than an hour.
