Police from Canobolas Local Area Command were called to Gerties camping area at Wyangala Dam, about 40 kilometres east of Cowra, about 6pm on Friday, after a 38-year-old man was seen to disappear underwater and not resurface.
Following an extensive search with assistance from local police, Police Dive Unit and State Emergency Service (SES), the man’s body was located about 1pm on Saturday.
The man is yet to be formally identified.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Search continues for missing swimmer who went to help child
A search resumed on Saturday morning for a man who went missing while swimming in the Lachlan River 40 kilometres east of Cowra.
Police from Canobolas Local Area Command were called to Gerties camping area at Wyangala Dam, about 6pm on Friday, after a 38-year-old man was seen to disappear underwater and not resurface.
The man had gone to the aid of a nine-year-old boy in the water, who was rescued by a kayaker.
A search began involving local police, assisted by State Emergency Service.
The search of the river and surrounding shoreline continued until 10.30pm when it was suspended.
The search resumed about 7am on Saturday, with assistance sought from the Police Dive Unit.
