Rex announced extra Orange-Sydney return flights earlier this month and indicated it was willing to seek a partnership with the council to deliver the cheaper flights.
One-way Orange-Sydney fares currently start from $165.25.
Councillor Jeff Whitton asked about reopening talks with Rex at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
“It’s making the airline available to all of our community, not just those who can afford to fly,” he said.
Technical services director Ian Greenham said the talks had already started.
“We actually have a current proposal from Rex, we are looking at how the other other airports that are running the same proposal are finding that operation,” he said.
