The 2017 graduate was recognised for receiving a band six – between 90-100 per cent – in her Higher School Certificate music subject.
Miss Mackay, who was one of 29 students at her school to receive a band six, put in up to two hours of viola practice a day, on top of her year 12 studies.
“It was a bit intense,” Miss Mackay said.
“Music is my creative outlet though – I find it much more relaxing than writing essays or studying formulas.”
Miss Mackay has been accepted to study Veterinary Science at Sydney University but is choosing to take a year off to consider her options.
“This year I’m starting a music teaching job and hopefully I’ll be playing in as many local orchestras as possible,” Miss Mackay said.
