In the past 10 years the Orange unit has seen improvements particularly with reduced disability.
Orange hospital was also one of four rural hospitals involved in a project which focused on getting stroke patients quicker care in the right place by partnering with and educating paramedics.
In time for the stroke unit’s 10th anniversary, it has welcomed its first stroke director and staff neurologist Dr Rami Haddad.
“I have seen exceptional support from staff and executive teams to help develop the highest level of care for our stroke patients which is so important in minimising ongoing disability and preventing further strokes,” Dr Haddad said.
“Partnerships with other local health districts also ensure that we can offer our communities world class care.”
Staff from Royal Price Alfred Hospital (RPA) also visited Orange Health Service this week to provide advice and collaborate with staff on how they can optimise the referral pathways for complex stroke cases.
RPA’s Associate Professor John Worthington said the earlier someone receives treatment, the better and there are new developments in clot recovery, which are undertaken at the RPA with some referrals coming from Orange.
