Of the 367 people who responded to the survey, 351 supported reintroducing the service, or 97 per cent.
Sixty per cent wanted the service returned twice a year, with 24 per cent happy with an annual service – the remainder wanted it three and four times a year.
Asked how much they would be prepared to pay for it, 66 per cent were happy to pay an extra $10, in line with the $6.98 quoted by council staff, while 28 per cent were happy to pay up to $50 and five voters said they would be prepared to pay up to $150.
No one was happy with a $200-plus charge – the current collection fee is $212.
Voters were evenly split on how they wanted to pay, with 55 per cent wanting to be charged through council rates and 45 per cent through a ticket system.
Ninety-two per cent believed the service would cut the rate of illegal dumping.
Councillor Sam Romano asked to consider reintroducing the service earlier this month and it will be discussed in briefings before being returned to a full meeting.
The service was phased out in 2015.
