The money will be split evenly to support White Ribbon’s advocacy and Housing Plus’ campaign to build a domestic violence crisis shelter.
Orange White Ribbon Day committee chairwoman Nicole Paterson said she had been “overwhelmed” at the support from residents, community organisations and businesses.
“The way people got around the event was really heartening,” Ms Paterson said.
“We’ve got a tiny committee and I’m grateful for their efforts.”
Ms Paterson said four treadmills ran for the full 24 hours and a fifth was used by people who hadn’t organised a team, but wanted to get involved.
Among the businesses supporting the event was the relay’s major sponsor the Orange Ex-Services’ Club as well as community services including the NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Police Force.
“Canobolas Local Area Command were happy to be involved in supporting the aims of White Ribbon which is to prevent and reduce the incidents of domestic violence,” domestic violence liaison officer Senior Constable Granton Smith said.
Ms Paterson said anyone who wanted to help support the fundraising efforts could still visit the website 2017whiteribbontreadmillrelay.gofundraise.com.au which would remain active for the next week.
