Firefighters arrived at 8.29am on Monday to extinguish a fire which started in a hallway behind the old bank building and between two kitchens.
A fire extinguisher placed in the hallway emptied under pressure and may have helped stem the fire’s spread.
Owner Nick Bacon said the building’s age helped with the double-brick and stone building withstanding some of the fire’s heat.
The Union Bank building is around 165 years old.
Unfortunately, a number fridges, an ice machine, food and equipment have been destroyed in the fire.
“Builders and electricians are now working around the clock to fix the damage,” Mr Bacon said.
“Specialist equipment has been damaged but at the end of the day, it’s insured and replaceable.
“When we’re in our busiest trading period of the year, it’s really devastating, we’re at capacity day-in and day-out.”
Mr Bacon said he was glad no-one was injured.
Fire and Rescue NSW station officer Matt Jeffery said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
Mr Bacon said staff and emergency services acted swiftly to resolve the situation.
”Everyone is fine and the team did an incredible job notifying the authorities and moving away to safety,” he said.
“We’re grateful to the team for acting quickly to salvage the situation.
“Although there is considerable damage, the fire was contained.”
