Calare Public School assistant principal and choir coordinator Maxine Thompson said the school has had students perform at the performing arts extravaganza every year for the past 20 years.
“We all have to audition so it’s not a done deal, we are just lucky that we are always successful with our audition,” Mrs Thompson said.
This year she will take 16 choral students and dance co-ordinator Hayley Keed will take 16 dance students who will depart on Tuesday and return to Orange on Sunday.
“The dance students will be performing a Beatles medley,” Mr Thompson said.
The choir will sing back-up vocals and in the choruses of all the items, including those that are not in English and the students will sing from seats within the audience.
“There will be 50 songs,” Mrs Thompson said.
“There will be featured singers and we come in the choruses.
The choir will also be one of only five or six regional choirs who will also get to sing on stage for one song.
“Usually it’s city schools [who get to do that] because they are there for more rehearsals,” Mrs Thompson said.
The Schools Spectacular will take place at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena in Olympic Park on Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25.
