There is a host of activities planned inside and outside the school grounds this week, with principal Jo Jackett predicting a large turnout for Friday’s and Saturday’s events.
According to the educator, the digging up and opening of a time capsule buried in the school grounds 50 years ago should be especially memorable.
“We are very excited the 1967 time capsule will be revealed, with contents and images dated 50 years back,” Mrs Jackett said.
“We are also putting together the 2017 time capsule which is on display and will later be placed in the ground to be opened in 2067.”
The school will open its doors for the official proceedings at 9am on Friday, with Orange’s Tahlia Sutherland will sing the national anthem in Wiradjuri and English before Nyree Reynolds provides the Wiradjuri Welcome to Country.
The school’s youngest and oldest students will also plant a tree to mark the occasion.
Mrs Jackett said there will be plenty of opportunities for guests to take a walk down memory lane.
“We have pulled together school memorabilia including old photographs which will be available in the library and at the Golden Memories Museum,” she said.
“People may also be able to purchase a sesquicentennial commemorative pin for $5 and orders will be taken for additional engraved pavers to extend the family pathway.
“We are also very excited that the students will present their annual school production in the hall, an look at Millthorpe through the decades.”
The Millthorpe Golden Memories Museum – which has an extensive collection of photos and memorabilia – will be open, with free entry on both Friday and Saturday.
A catch-up is planned at the Millthorpe Bowling club from 4pm on Friday with a light afternoon tea provided.
On Saturday there will be a village picnic at Redmond Oval between 12pm and 4pm, including a free barbecue and entertainment.
Mrs Jackett encouraged anyone interested in attending Friday’s events to phone 6366 3104.
