Tamburlaine Organic Wines, Montoro Wines, Highland Heritage Estate and Brokenwood won trophies on Friday.
David Crawley from Highland Heritage said the trophy wasn’t only recognition for the winery, but the region.
“It’s a fantastic award not only for Highland Heritage but the Orange Wine Region,” Mr Crawley said.
He said the awards showed how diverse the region was.
Montoro Wines’ Bob Derrick said the trophy for best mature red was special.
“2013 was our first wine that we made because we had traditionally sold grapes to other wine makers,” Mr Derrick said.
“It’s a sense of relief that what we’re doing is all positive.”
Tamburlaine Organic Wines’ senior winemaker Aaron Mercer said winning best organic wine was better than international awards since it was against peers facing the same conditions.
While beating peers was good – Mr Mercer said winning best young Cabernet was even sweeter.
“In the Cabernet we’re against the best of the best,” Mr Mercer said.
Meanwhile Brokenwood Winery’s senior winemaker Stuart Hordern said the fruit in their Chardonnay was from Orange’s highest vineyard.
“It’s a testament to the quality and consistency of the site and the esteem Orange is held in in producing some of NSW’s best wines,” Mr Hordern said.
