At 12.50am on Sunday the Holden VT Commodore was travelling along Huntley Road when the car suffered a break down.
The driver pulled off the road to the left of the northbound lane and went to seek help. When the driver returned, they found the car on fire.
Canobolas Local Area Command duty officer Chief Inspector Peter Atkins said the car was awaiting repairs and was torched by vandals.
Firefighters received a call to a car alight at 1.18am and had extinguished and left the scene by 1.42am.
It was the first of two cars torched in Orange over the weekend, the second car, a Mazda Bravo ute was found alight near Lone Pine Avenue around 7am on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Atkins said anyone who had seen people or cars around the area was asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Orange police on 6363 6399.
