The first of the six free recitals begins on Sunday, October 15 at 1.00pm, and is set to showcase the band’s wide palate of music.
The band covers anything from brass band classics from the 1940s through to modern hits like Lady Gaga, to musicals such as The Lion King and Les Miserables.
Band publicity officer John Moss said the band’s recitals have been a stalwart of the Orange summer for “well more than 20 years”, with the band existing under one several banners for over 100 years.
“It’s a community based,” Mr Moss said.
“It’s made up of people from the community who may have joined having learnt an instrument or two when they were younger, may have had time off and want to come back to it.”
Mr Moss said in recent years the band had developed a “strong following” in the community helped by the annual celebration, and band members appreciate community support.
This year one of the foremost brass bands in the country, the Melbourne Staff Band, will attend the Brass Celebration.
The celebration will also coincide with a Teddy Bear picnic in Cook Park.
Mr Moss said despite the band having “strong” membership of nearly 30, he encouraged people to come along and join the fun.
“We always welcome new members,” he said.
The band practice every Thursday from 7.30pm at the band hall in Endsleigh avenue.
Mr. Moss said people after more information should contact 0402 155 170 or cityoforangebrassband@gmail.com.
