SOCIAL housing in the Orange electorate is set for an upgrade with the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) confirming $2.8 million would be spent in the electorate.
“This funding will be spent during the 2017-18 financial year to ensure homes meet the needs of social housing residents and are well maintained,” a FACS spokeswoman said.
“A final program of upgrade works for the electorate is being completed.”
The money is set to spent on existing properties in Orange, Parkes and Forbes, with member for Orange Phil Donato welcoming the funds.
“It’s certainly a step in the right direction and welcome,” Mr Donato said.
“I don’t know what it will cost to repair unoccupied housing or whether they will get demolished.
“Hopefully it’s spent wisely and helps where it’s needed most.”
