Edye Park basketball court creates 'sense of belonging' | Photos

ABOUT 30 children and their parents descended on Glenroi’s Edye Park on Saturday for the official opening of its basketball court.

Glenroi Community Action Group president Melissa Hatton said it would give children a place to go.

“It gives a sense of belonging,” she said.

Group member Joe Maric said discussions had been held with the basketball association to hold after-school clinics for children and it was also hoped a barbecue area and shelter could be added.

Mayor John Davis said it was a council and community responsibility to maintain.

“People can be more confident about their kids playing here rather than in an alleyway,” he said.

The $60,000 project was funded by a $50,000 state grant secured by Housing Plus and $10,000 from Orange City Council.
