But this Sunday was different.
The sounds of roadworks, in the form of a digger breaking up concrete in McNamara Street and loading it into a truck, filled the 8am air.
Is this a sign of Orange’s new urban feel, roadworks having to be done at unlikely hours, to beat the Monday morning ‘peak hour rush’?
The site, which enters an all-day car park behind the Hotel Canobolas, is to receive beautification works and a loading zone for trucks.
Not all locals approved of it and it was debated extensively at Orange City Council.
But at least the work has started.
