Housing Plus CEO David Fisher said the equipment could be used by everyone.
“Gyms aren’t for everyone, the cost and the environment can be off-putting. But this is on people’s doorsteps, it’s free and they can use it on their own or with their neighbours.”
Orange PCYC will be among the first organisations to use the gym.
“Our mission is getting young people active in life and we’ll look at running a few classes,” manager Geoff Potts said.
Mayor John Davis said the council would not have supported the gym if there wasn’t an obvious demand from residents.
“If the community has stepped up, it puts pressure on council to support this part of the community,” Councillor Davis said.
Real Insurance spokesman Phillip Anderson said it was the business’s “intention to do hundreds of these gyms around Australia”.
