ANFD event officer Teiya Thornberry said in association with the annual Three Sheep Trial, sponsors Dogpro would be hosting demonstrations on how to start off a pup or young dog.

“Some of our trial competitors will be conducting the demonstrations at lunchtime each day near the sheepdog trial area,” Teiya said.

“The working dog competition has been a part of the field days for 25 years and attracts very high calibre competitors.

“This is a great chance for anyone looking to improve their training skills or who just wants to know they are on the right track.”

The Dogpro Three Sheep Trial is jointly hosted by the ANFD and NSW Sheepdog Workers Incorporated.

Last year it attracted 22 competitors and 74 working dogs.

“We are expecting at least as many entries this year and we’re pleased to announce that this year’s judge will be Peter Oxley,” Teiya said.

“Peter is a well respected working dog trainer and trialler from the Central West and has multiple trial wins to his name.”

The Dogpro Three Sheep Trial heats will be run on Thursday and Friday, October 20 and 21. The top 10 dogs will be competing in the semi-final on Saturday morning, October 22. The top five dogs will compete in the final on Saturday afternoon.

The ANFD committee is running a Working Dog Photographic Competition.

All working dog owners, whether triallers or not, are invited to submit photos of their ‘best mate’ for the  competition, which will be judged at the field days.
