They are part of a 10-strong TAFE Western team heading to Melbourne for next month’s three-day WorldSkills competition.
Offner, 20, a welder, has three six-hour projects to complete, and it’s all about the pressure.
One task involves building a pressure vessel where the welds must hold. If it starts leaking, he’s in strife.
Offner said he was confident his intense training, up to 15 hours a week for 10 weeks, would see him right.
“So far I’m pretty good with all training. You have got to get all the preparations right. If you don’t practise, you’ve got no chance.”
Kelly will compete in turning and Stanford in electrical installation.
