Today The Nappy Collective national campaign comes to an end and local co-ordinator Lee Chapman says she will need plenty of helpers to help transport the donated disposable nappies after collection boxes have overflowed at Baby Kingdom.

“It has been absolutely tremendous - we have hundreds of nappies,” she said.

Although The Nappy Collective twice yearly campaign was set up by a small group of women who called on the public to donate left over nappies, Ms Chapman says she’s overwhelmed by the number of new nappies which have been donated.

“To think people actually care that much to take the time to buy nappies is fantastic,” she said.

Ms Chapman said donations of cloth nappies in good condition are always welcome, but often are not suitable for many mothers.

“Women who we help are often in a very transient situation and may not have access to laundry facilities,” she said.

“But where they are in a more stable situation and they prefer cloth nappies, we can help out with donations.”

Baby Kingdom owner Gillian Young said although the campaign to collect nappies officially ends today she is happy for the business to be a drop off point year round.

“We can just keep them here and store them ready for the next campaign,” she said. “People have been so generous.

“The ladies from the Molong CWA all went out and purchased nappies to bring in which is wonderful,” she said.

Ms Chapman said the disposable nappies collected in Orange will go to Housing Plus in Orange which works with rehousing victims of domestic violence, Anglicare, The Benevolent Society and Centacare, which runs the Forbes women’s refuge.
