Having been introduced to the paddock to plate stories of local producers on the scenic train journey to Orange, the group was quickly whisked away to savour the food of the Orange district.
Mary Dimech from Castle Hill in Sydney said sampling some of the delicious produce during the train ride was the perfect way to start her weekend away in the colour city.
“We started off with a fruit compote and then had an egg and bacon quiche with some coffee,” she said.
“Then a lady came on board from Bloodwood Wines and she gave us some of her wine and we had some cheese and biscuits.
“She gave us a lovely commentary on how she got started and how she loves living in Orange after coming from Sydney.”
Mrs Dimech said she had been waiting three years to get on the train because it was always booked out so far in advance.
FOOD Train volunteer Sheelagh Tancred said the train ride yesterday morning was a great success and one of the biggest ever.
“It was fantastic - this year we had 41 people so we had a whole carriage,” she said.
“We started out with a much smaller number but it has really grown in recent years.
“Everyone enjoyed themselves - all the food we gave them was locally produced.
“Rhonda Doyle from Bloodwood provided her sparkling shiraz which I think everyone loved.”
After arriving at Orange train station on Friday the group quickly set off to The Old Convent in Borenore for lunch.
The Sydney foodies will attend Forage today before taking a leisurely stroll through Cook Park and the Sunday Producers’ Market for brunch tomorrow.
