About 9000 people are expected to step into Millthorpe Public School from 8.30am to 3pm to peruse 120 markets stalls with everything from fashion to face painting, art, craft and health and beauty products.
Usually held on Redmond Oval, this year’s event has moved into the school grounds while the oval is refurbished, but market co-ordinator, Johannah Francis says the event will be up to its usual standard.
“The markets are a fun day out, with plenty of activities for the kids and an eclectic mix of stalls on offer,” she said.
Marketing manager Georji Redfern said last year’s market raised $10,000 for the refurbishment of the oval.
“The students, teachers and parents of Millthorpe Public School are excited to once again welcome the community to share in a fun day out, enjoy the stalls on offer, visit our beautiful school grounds, and the village of Millthorpe,” she said.
Money raised from the twice yearly markets goes towards fundraising efforts for students at Millthorpe Public School.
Funds from past markets have been used to buy technological equipment and support other initiatives to benefit students including smartboards, playground equipment, computers, band scholarships, costs associated with representative sports and home readers.
Long time market goer Fiona Schofield, of Fiona Schofield Millinery, said the Millthorpe markets were well organised and usually drew the largest crowd of any market in the area.
“These days there’s a market on nearly every week but I always make sure I get to Millthorpe,” she said.
“It’s well run, it’s easy to participate in.”
“They market it really well.”
