Tonight at the Sea Eagles season launch in Sydney, Mortimer’s wines will be anointed as exclusive wine partner and supplier to Brookvale Oval.
NRL legend and Mortimers of Orange owner Peter Mortimer said the deal opens up a wide range of opportunities for the Orange brand.
“It’s very good for business because it’s a guaranteed set of turnover for the next three years,” he said.
“It also exposes us to Manly corporates and Manly supporters and businesses in the area like bars and restaurants and the like.”
The announcement is a major boost for the company that already has contracts with Leichhardt Oval and Belmore Oval, as well as Parramatta Stadium, which is set for renovations that will double its seating capacity.
Some of the varieties on offer an Brookvale Oval will be sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet, merlot and pinot noir.
Mr Mortimer said the deal is a boost for not only Mortimers of Orange, but the Orange region and its wine.
The former Canterbury legend said if the deal opens other opportunities and Mortimer’s wines is in short supply, he’ll be recommending other Orange wineries to help fill the varieties he can’t supply.
Although he admitted having a famous sporting name like Mortimer has opened up the door to rugby league markets in Sydney, that hasn’t been the sole reason for his brand’s success.
“You’ve got to back up the name with quality products,” he said.
“If you’re not competitive and you don’t have a good product the opportunity is wasted.”
