DUNTRYLEAGUE Golf Club’s James Conran had already had a big year, but he topped it off by winning the 50th anniversary Wentworth Open on Sunday.
Conran claimed the title with a two-under 36-hole tally of 138, playing consistently across the two days.
The Wentworth title will now sit alongside his other 2015 exploits, which started with him being a part of Duntryleague’s Central West District Golf Association division one pennant-winning side - the club’s third straight title.
From there, he took out the Western Sydney Junior Masters at Lynwood a month later.
Fast forward several months, and Conran claimed the 54-hole City of Orange Golf Championship before scoring his maiden victory in the Duntryleague Open, not long after coming second at Bathurst’s Open event, where he was just one stroke behind winner Robert Payne.
Then, Conran won the chance to play in his first NSW Open alongside father Steve, although he failed to make the cut.
Conran’s win in the weekend’s Wentworth didn’t come easy, though, and he beat a bumper field to claim the title, in particular home club hopefuls Matt Williamson, Craig Coles, Jordan Clark and Steve Bray. Those at Wentworth were said to be desperate to see a local member win the title amid the club’s 50th celebrations.
The win not only kept Conran’s incredible run of form going, but also gave Duntryleague a clean sweep of the Orange Open events - Rob Parfett won the Ex-Services’ Country Club NAB Open a fortnight ago.
