The 2015 Orange Wine Festival is upon us and connoisseurs will be descending on the many events armed with the kind of know how that puts amateurs to shame.
Thankfully the Central Western Daily's Mark Logan has been working hard to uncover the answers to these questions so that even the beer-guzzlers among us will be able to talk the talk when sipping our sauv blancs.
To do this he's enlisted the help of four of Orange's experts who generously donated their time and knowledge to produce a series of videos on the basics of wine.
Charles Sturt University Wine Centre manager Justin Byrne looked at the pros and cons of different glasses, while Philip Shaw's Nadja Wallington took us through the wine-making process from vineyard to bottle.
Ross Hill's James Robson explained to dos and don'ts of wine tasting and Justin Jarrett outlines just why the Orange region's cool climate wines are so special.
The tips should come in handy for anyone planning on heading to the Orange Wine Show Tasting at the agriculture pavilion of the Orange Showground on Saturday, October 17.
The event runs from 5pm to 8pm and costs $45 or $50 with a spiegelau glass.
The evening will feature many of the 200 wines in the running for the inaugural People's Choice Award, proudly sponsored by the Central Western Daily.
