“It was brilliant,” Orange Cycle Club’s Mitch Bland said.
“We had 16 new members join just from the day, which for our club is a 10 per cent jump in one afternoon.
Riders were divided into three groups, with the earliest riders classed as beginners, the middle tier track skills riders and the highest level cyclists advanced skills riders.
“There’s the three tiers, and the smaller tier is one where we teach kids on smaller bikes how to ride in straight lines and in a predictable manner,” Bland added.
“We had a number of those riders on Sunday, while the second stage, which we call the track skills stage, involves the competent riders who we view as potential track riders in the coming year, and will eventually progress into our Tuesday night races.”
The club’s junior sessions will continue each Sunday from 4pm at the Moulder Park velodrome, while Bland said a host of the club’s best young talent was gearing towards the NSW Country Championships, which this year is begin held at the new Bathurst Velodrome on the Vale Road on November, 21.
“There’s a number of riders who’ll be vying for medals there too,” Bland added.
