Current members include people from various bands, Orange City Council representatives and event orgainsers who instead of working individually, want to work together, to ensure all the events staged in Orange are the best they can be.
Orange JAM spokesperson Mark Logan said the few casual meetings the group members already had, have come up with the group’s title and a loose charter to represent what they want to be about: jamming in Orange, as well as being Just About Music (JAM).
“It’s not about any one company or group or club being the mouthpiece for what we’re trying to achieve,” Mr Logan said.
“Essentially we just want to encourage live music in Orange.”
Jon Carter has organised the monthly 4 on the 4loor live music showcases for almost 20 years and said joining with fellow organisers could allow Orange to host an annual music festival as well as regular jam sessions.
“We’re just playing it by ear at the moment ... fostering local talent is all part of it,” Mr Carter said.
“It’s another extension of doing something around music. But this has the potential to be more than just music. It will involve all the ancillary bits of creating an event and a true happening in Orange.”
Orange JAM’s next meeting will be held on August 19 in the west room next to Orange City Library from 7pm.
The group welcomes the involvement of anyone interested in music event production, for example acts, producers, publicists or booking agents, to come along.
