SEVEN of Central West’s stars in the Baby Bulls’ undefeated NSW Country Championship win were named in the under 14 NSW Country squad this week, including Orange’s Beau Westcott, Nick Wald and Fletcher Wright.
Westcott, who plays for Orange City, was also named the tournament’s best forward, while fellow Lion Wald and Orange Emus star Wright dominated on the wing and in the centres respectively.
Bathurst’s Tom Hooper, Wellington’s Logan Conn, Narromine’s Lachlan Bible and Cowra’s Cameron Trengove were all also named in the NSW Country squad, after Central West completed a clinical 22-5 victory over Central Coast in the decider.
Prior to that, the Baby Bulls produced dominant performances to down Central North 29-nil in the semi-final, and Far North Coast (33-5), Mid North Coast (38-nil) and Hunter (31-7) in the preliminary stage.
The group’s attention now turns to the NSW Junior Rugby Union under 14 State Championships in Orange over the June long weekend, before a NSW Country camp in Narrabeen from July 8-10.
Central West’s under 12 side fell one step short of mimicking their older counterparts, succumbing to a strong Illawarra side 36-24 in the decider.
Central West easily accounted for Mid North Coast (31-10), New England (67-nil) and Hunter (21-5) in the preliminary stage, and demolished Central North 38-5 in the penultimate game.
With the scores locked at 24-all in the decider with just six minutes remaining, the Illawarriors lifted, scoring two late tries to seal victory.
Central West’s under 16 side finished fifth in its country championship campaign, while the under 15s, under 16s and under 17s all play next month.
