Set on a 1920s theme the ball will be chance for ladies to wear your hair in a short bob, or in finger waves with sparkling headbands.
For the gentlemen it will be a chance to pull out that pinstripe suit that’s been languishing in the wardrobe .
Many guests will be adapting something they have in the wardrobe with the use of a cleverly thrown piano shawl around the shoulders or the oriental jacket over pants that were popular in the era. The classic flapper look for ladies is a drop waisted fringed or beaded cocktail dress and round-toed shoes with a mid heel.
The essential accessories were a cigarette holder for the new woman of the 1920s who drank and smoked for the first time in public, and a classic long string of pearls.
For the gentleman gangsters a white tie over a black shirt with a fedora accessory was all the go.
However for the more conservative 1920’s man a blazer over white or cream pants was the smart look.
While some of these fashions encapsulate the 1920’s look, guests can choose a less-themed style according to Ronald McDonald House events committee vice chair and treasurer Rebecca Walsh.
“Of course while some people want to dress up in the 1920’s theme, there are others who would just prefer to dress along the lines of an after five outfit and that’s perfectly fine,” said.
“The most important thing is that guests enjoy themselves while giving us their wonderful support,” she said.
There are just a handful of tickets left for the Great Gatsby Ball which will be held on Saturday, September 6 at the Orange Function Centre.
Tickets are available at WIN television.
