Member for Orange Andrew Gee said the donation would help improve technology to assist in the better transcription of court proceedings.
“Only one of the three courthouses had digital recorders and the other two relied on old-style recorders and if you wanted a transcript you then had to fill in a form and have the tapes sent away to be transcribed,” he said.
“Installing new digital technology will significantly improve the quality and reliability of recordings and ensure audio can be accessed faster and more efficiently.
“The audio will be captured by microphones in the courtroom and automatically uploaded onto a computer and transferred to a transcription centre to be transcribed if required.
“This upgrade essentially brings Orange into the 21st century.”
Mr Gee said this important funding would be welcomed by everyone in the legal system, ranging from lawyers, judges, juries, legal practitioners and members of the public which are involved in court matters.
“The funding will help administrate justice better and more efficiently.”
