The Barbarians are coming off a 22-all draw with Blackheath last Saturday at Max Stewart Oval, and McClymont is urging his troops to lift to ensure the red and blues stay in contention for a top-four berth.
“We’ve got a few out next week but hopefully we can get the win,” McClymont said, his Barbarians now on three competition points with Blackheath (fourth) accruing seven over the course of the first six rounds.
“Villages being on the bottom of the ladder, we probably need to get a victory so we can eye off a semi-finals spot later in the year.”
Last Saturday’s game was played in extremely wet conditions, and McClymont said the weather didn’t help either side’s handling.
Turning the game into an “arm-wrestle”, a 60th-minute penalty goal from Ryan Roach locked the scores up at 22-all before some stout defence late in the contest secured the Barbarians the all-important one point.
“It’s disappointing we didn’t get the win, though,” McClymont said.
