A 52-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man were driving in opposite directions on Warraderry Road at around 11.40am when their front right wheels collided on a bend, forcing one driver off the road.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles for more than an hour while paramedics, police and NSW Fire and Rescue members worked to free them.
The road was closed with traffic banked up heading towards Gooloogong.
Helicopters were on standby while officers attempted to release the victims from their vehicles.
Central West Ambulance duty operations manager, Inspector Peter Rowlands said because the collision was wheel to wheel, it was difficult for retrieval crews.
He said the man sustained abdominal and lower leg injuries while the woman received lower leg injuries.
Inspector Dave Harvey said the victims were the sole occupants of their vehicles and were from the area.
The incident is being investigated by police.
